Every two (2) years, the Department of Transportation (DOT) requires all applicants and holders of Commerical Drivers Licenses (CDL) to receive a physical examination. The purpose of these examinations is to ensure that drivers are physically capable of operating commercial vehicles safely.
DOT physical exam requirements include:
- The ability to distinguish between the colors of traffic signals (red, yellow, green)
- The ability to hear a forced whisper from 5 feet away, with or without the use of a hearing aid
- Minimum of 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction
- Maximum of 140/90 blood pressure
- No usage of habit-forming drugs
